So my no spending for a week experiment went okay, not great, but okay. I got all the stuff I needed to list on ebay listed and the old books taken to the library (I also checked some books out and read some magazines while I was there rather than buying them). I completely cleaned my car inside and out and it looks great. The only things I bought all week were 3 nail polishes that I got with a gift certificate I had. I didn’t do so good on the eating out part though, I ate dinner out 4 out of 7 days, and I’m sure I could’ve done much better on that but I did make it all 7 days without any trips to Starbucks. The hardest aspect of not eating out is the social aspect. One of the eating out occasions was when a relative came to visit and my mom wanted us to go out to eat with him. Another was with an acquaintance who I’d like to get to know better and it gave us an opportunity to talk more than ever before. I also found myself avoiding calling my friend’s because other than doing something that involves spending money (eating, coffee, a bar, movies, etc) we don’t really do that much together. So it looks like not eating out isn’t a practical option.
Another step I took during this past week was to make an ultimate wishlist to keep with me to remind me why I don’t want to spend so much money. That list includes a condo, a couple trips to specific places, a laptop, and a 300mm lens for my camera (the laptop and lens being essential to the trips because they will focus on digital photography).
