Wall-E

by Carrie on March 11, 2009

I recently watched Wall-E (I rented it on iTunes which I think is one of the greenest ways to rent movies and renting is always greener and more frugal than buying for me since I rarely watch a movie a second time).

Beyond the movie being about robots I didn’t really have any idea what it was going to be about. I was rather startled but pleased to see it was about Earth being so overrun by garbage that it was unfit for human life. On one hand the movie shows humans in such a state of reckless consumption that they don’t notice their environment (either on Earth or on the space cruise ship) which I hope really wakes a lot of people up and on the other hand it shows Wall-E reusing what the humans considered trash and maintaining himself so that he doesn’t need to be trashed and replaced which I hope plants ideas on how to appreciate “stuff” in viewers’ minds.

If you haven’t watched Wall-E yet, I think it’s very much worth a few hours of your time.

I loved Wall-E for that very reason. It really does make you think about your consumption habits. Nice post.
