Vintage Glass Snack Sets: A Classic Reusable

Vintage Glass Snack Sets

A very popular green thing to be doing this summer is to use reusables rather than paper or plastic plates and cups while entertaining. Here’s a cute and fun vintage way to go the reusable route.

Vintage glass snack sets are a classic reusable for formal or informal entertaining events. They’re made of sturdy thick glass and readily available on eBay (search for “glass snack set”). Federal Glass Hospitality, the curvy pattern in the picture above, and Anchor Hocking Boppie Glass, the rectangular pattern in the picture above, are some of the most common patterns and auctions tend to end at around $1-2 per place setting (not including shipping). You may not need to buy them though. Two of my great grandmothers had several sets each and from them I’ve now got about 30 place settings collected in my garage.

My mom says she remembers these being very common at weddings when she was growing up. Every family would bring their snack sets with a tape or nail polish mark on the bottom so they could identify their’s when the night was over. Coffee and tea would be severed for the cups and cake and candy and nuts would go on the plate.

What are your favorite reusables for entertaining?

I love these dishes! I started my set after getting some at a garage sale. Now I keep my eye open at goodwill and other resale shops. My pattern has grapevines and grapes on them. When I was growing up (I’m 29), every baby shower, luncheon, or get together at church used this kind of glass dishes. It is so weird to go somewhere and see paper plates now…except at my house!! We love to use my glass dishes!!

I totally love these vintage glasses. In fact I love anything vintage ;-)
My favorite boxes are vintage style. I cant’ use much of my glass and tea sets because my boys have ended up breaking lots of stuff.
I’m going t use my china set for a tea party that i will be hosting for my friend next week.
All the best,
Eren

I do the same thing! I’ve got all of my trays at thrift stores. Most of it doesn’t match, which makes storing it a little more difficult, but it looks much more interesting when it is set out on the table.

I love those sets! I’ve been looking for them locally for ages but have only found some really high dollar sets. I’ll have to check out ebay. Thanks!

Very nice! I have some of these myself; they belonged to my grandmother. And I’m sure you can find them all the time at the thrift store.

I just inherited five sets from my grandma and wondered what I should do with them. Thanks for the remonder that paper plates haven’t always been the norm. Now I just need a baby shower to host.
