I see a lot of parallels between things you can do to help yourself out in the current economic situation and things you can do to be more environmentally conscious.
Here are some examples:
Don’t run out and buy a hybrid car just to have a hybrid. It’s a waste of money and resources if you have a relatively new and functional car. But if it’s time to buy a new car because you’ve driven your old one into the ground then consider a hybrid.
Grow your own produce in your garden. It’ll save you money at the grocery store. It’ll be local and fresh. You’ll be helping to convert CO2 back into oxygen by planting more plants.
Consider if anything you already own will serve the function of a new item you want to purchase. You’ll save money by not buying something you don’t really need. You’ll help the environment by not consuming all that extra packaging and transportation costs and ultimately sending more items to the dump later on.
Basically the less stuff you buy the less stress you put on the environment in terms of transportation, packaging, and waste; you can save money and save the planet at the same time.
