Recycled Paper: Closing the Recycling Loop

by Carrie on February 3, 2009

Last April I switched jobs. At my old job I worked at a company that printed the plastic bags that many produce items are sold in. Many of our clients did not care to have recycling information printed on their bags despite the fact that they were all #4 plastic. I was also bothered by the general wastefulness of buying produce in plastic bags in the first place. I buy most of mine unbagged and don’t use the bags offered by the grocery store. I couldn’t afford to quit over my personal concerns but as soon as I was offered a new job I took the opportunity.

My new job is also in the printing industry but at a company that prints on mainly on paper. Since establishing myself at my new company, I’ve made it my personal mission to bring recycled paper to our product offerings. I’m pleased to announce that today we ordered our first roll of 100% post consumer recycled paper. And in the position of marketing manager, I have the power to encourage all of our clients to use it. I finally feel satisfied that I’ve closed the recycling loop: I recycle lots of paper at home and in the office, I try to buy recycled paper products, and now it’s also my job to sell recycled.

Kudos! Multiplied by 10!

I am currently in the position of also “readjusting” what feeds me to be more in line with personal philosophy so I understand completely and thanks much for the example of “it can be done.”

Also kudos for your philosophy itself! Go recycling!

I love your post and I must remember you slogan that we must sell recycling. I do know that as we educate people about recycling, reducing, and upcycling, we improve our world and save our resources.
