If you haven’t done it already, now is the time to install a programmable thermostat. I installed on in the house I’m renting about 2 weeks ago and it kicked into action this weekend.
My thermostat is set to 68 while I’m here (in the mornings before work, in the evenings after work, and during the day on weekends) and 60 when I’m gone or sleeping.
The programmable thermostat has two major advantages:
1) You will be more comfortable because you can have it kick into action a bit before you have to wake up or get home from work so it won’t be chilly while you wait for it to heat up.
2) You’ll save on your energy bill (as long as you set it reasonably) because you won’t accidentally leave it on all day while you’re at work.
If you own you’re home it’s easy to run out and buy one to install. If you don’t own your home check with your landlord first – I was able to buy and install it myself and send in the receipts and deduct the costs for my rent for the month.
This is the one I got and it was very easy to install and use:
