One of my New Year’s Resolutions this year was to switch to buying more organic produce, meat, and dairy products.
To make sure I’m getting the best prices when I buy those items, I’m putting together an organic price book based on prices in Northern California (other areas of the country will likely be cheaper).
This price book is just getting it’s start and will be updated on an ongoing basis so keep checking back.
Produce
- Carrots $0.99/lb
- Onions $0.99/lb
- Red Bell Peppers $2.39/ea
- Red Leaf Lettuce $1.99/head
- Strawberries $4.99/lb
Meat
- Chicken (boneless, skinless breasts) $5.99/lb
Dairy
- Eggs $3.99/doz
- Milk $5.49/gal
If you’d like to add some of the best organic prices you’ve seen, please feel free to do so in the comments.

Wow! I don’t know if its the exchange (I’m in Canada) or the fact food is in general more expensive here, but those prices are similar for what I pay for conventional groceries.
Great idea getting a list going! Here are some prices on organics I found in the Sacramento area just within the past month:
grass-fed ground beef = $5.99
milk = $5/gallon
strawberries = $2.79/lb
oranges = $.99/lb
apples = $.99
broccoli = $1.99/bunch
I think these are pretty much the lowest I’ve ever seen.
