I got my federal tax refund last week and went to Macy’s where I picked up this All Clad set of pots and pans today. Macy’s has a deal where you get the 5.5 qt cast aluminum pan and a pair of oven mitts free at the time a purchase and has a mail in rebate for another cast aluminum au gratin pan that I’ll be getting later.
I’ve been wanting new pots and pans for ages. My old ones are the cheapest non-stick set that was available at Costco when I moved into my first apartment. My mom always had stainless though so I was never happy with non-stick and recently the non-stick coating has started chipping off of my most used pans which is extremely bad for you if you ingest any of it. I’ll be disposing of the chipped pans and putting the ones that are still good in a box for my sister to use when she gets her first apartment (she’s in a college dorm right now).
So this 3 ply aluminum and stainless steel construction from All Clad was the most similar I could find to my mother’s set (which was discontinued probably 30 years ago). It contains the sizes and shapes of pans I use most often and I got the set for about $550. A bit expensive all at once but cheaper than buying the pans individually and a good price for what should hopefully be all the pans I need for the rest of my life.
Now I just have to decide what to cook first.

Sweet! Wish I’d used my tax refund for something like that. I can’t complain though, this year it was a camera. But I’ll definitely keep that idea in mind for next year, though.
How are you liking your All-Clads? I’ve never had a chance to use one, but I hear they’re the bomb.
@Digigirl
I’m liking them much much better than the nonstick Wearever I had before but they’re still not quite as good as my mom’s set (not sure what brand she had, I’ll need to check next time I’m at her house)
