This is my mom’s chocolate chip recipe which she made on an almost weekly basis as I was growing up. As you can imagine, that makes these the best chocolate chip cookies ever.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup margarine (I find that this recipe really is better with margarine rather than butter)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/4 cups flour
1 cup oatmeal
1 egg
4 teaspoons creme de cacao (or substitute a different liqueur or 1 teaspoon vanilla but the creme de cacao really makes this recipe)
1 cup chocolate chips
Cream margarine and sugars. Beat in egg and salt. Mix baking soda with creme de cacao and add with flour. Add oatmeal and chocolate chips. Bake at 375F, small cookies 12 minutes, large cookies 15 minutes. Makes approximately 2 dozen large cookies.
The secret I’ve found to making cookies work in different ovens with varying temperatures is to take them out as soon as you get the slightest whiff of “mmm, cookies” scent.

This sounds really wonderful. I'll have to try it.
You do realize that margarine & "shortening" like Crisco are transfats while coconut oil & butter are natural?
@Kathryn
I do realize that and I’ve tried and tried using other fats but it just doesn’t come out the same
Looks yummy!
Mmmm… reminds me… I have been asked to make some cookies by my men… I guess I had better get to it!

My two favorite cookies are Oatmeal and Chocolate Chip. With them being in one cookie, what else could I possibly need?
Well, with creme de cacao, I can see why these would be better than most chocolate chip cookies.
I’m guessing that you like it better with the margarine because that’s what you had as a child. There’s just something about those childhood memories.
