Meal Plan 11/22: Thanksgiving Week

by Carrie on November 22, 2009

Thanksgiving is this week. We will be celebrating at my parents’ house this year, but they are on vacation and not arriving home until Wednesday night so I’m doing all of the grocery shopping and a good chunk of the cooking. I’m taking the day before Thanksgiving off work and I’ll be busy cooking up a storm that day.

Thanksgiving menu:

  • Turkey
  • Mashed Potatoes
  • Dinner Rolls I’ll bake these ahead of time
  • Artichoke Parmesan Sourdough Stuffing from Sunset magazine, I made this last year and it was amazing so we’re having it again; I’ll cook this at my house Thanksgiving morning
  • Cranberry Sauce mom made and canned extra last year
  • Green Beans we’re going to cut corners here and heat up a bag of frozen beans
  • Fruit Salad apples and oranges from the trees in my parents’ yard
  • Gravy corners cut here too with a packet of Brown Gravy mix
  • Pecan Pie my personal favorite Thanksgiving food, I’ll bake this ahead of time
  • Pumpkin Pie mom can’t imagine a Thanksgiving without pumpkin pie so I’ll bake this ahead of time too

After Thanksgiving I’ll be eating tons of leftovers but what will I be eating before Thursday?

I cook frozen green beans all the time by thawing and stir-frying in olive oil with onion and garlic. Often I top with sliced almonds or maybe some sesame seeds for crunch. We love them that way.

oh em gee this all sounds delish! I wish we had a traditional Thanksgiving meal. My mom usually cooks Mexican food or we go out to a restaurant.
