The economy is hurting and conservative spending and taking advantage of what you already have is more relevant than ever. In my eyes, everything you can do to help the environment by being less wasteful helps our current economic situation too.
In April I started a new job that’s only 6 miles from home rather than 30 miles from home. This has helped my sanity and my budget immensely (not only do I spend less getting there but I get paid more too). My social life picked up around the same time too (I wasn’t so exhausted when I got home each day) so I’ve been neglecting my blog, but I think it’s time to get back to it.
One major thing I’ve been taking advantage of now that I work so much closer to home is going home for lunch. I find that driving home takes about the same amount of time and gas as driving to a restaurant or fast food place (the ones closest to work get boring quickly). I could pack my lunch and eat it at work but I feel much more relaxed when I can cook something quick and fresh and eat in the comfort of my own home – and I find that when eating at work it’s not really a break because people ask you tons of work questions during your supposed lunch hour. I can usually squeeze in some household chores like watering the garden or doing the dishes while I’m there too which saves me time later.
