Less Is More

Being a packrat runs in my family. I used to be a packrat but not anymore. I’ve been fourtunate enough to live a lifestyle where I’ve gotten practically everything I’ve ever wanted. My father has a “disease” which causes him to buy two or more of everything (including big ticket items like cars and computers). My father and his father, my grandfather, have kept pretty much everything they ever owned. And my grandfather recently moved into an apartment because his two houses are so full of stuff he can’t live in either of them anymore. In my family it’s practically a sin to throw out any of the original packaging something comes in. This is how I was raised. But I want to break the cycle and not be burdened by all my belongings.

I’ve been working on slowly trimming back how much stuff I have for about 2 years now (since I finished college and after moving 4 times in 3 years with all that stuff). I’ve come up with some methods that work for me and I want to share them in hopes they work for others. And I hope to explore new ways to cut back even more and be truly happy with the new acquisitions I do make.
