| I’m thrilled to see that Amazon has released a Kindle for iPhone application. I love the Kindle concept (no shipping/transportation or materials cost on the environment) but I wasn’t able to justify shelling out $359 for another gadget when I already have an iPhone (and there’s not room in my purse to keep another gadget with me at all times anyway). The best part about this app is it’s free – I get all the benefits of the Kindle by using what I already have at no additional cost (beyond buying the books).
My only hesitation about the Kindle is book cost. An average book runs $9.99. You don’t have the option to buy or sell used books, there’s nothing like a public library, and as far as I can tell it’s not easy to share books with your friends and family. This is the same concern that has kept me from purchasing movies via iTunes (I haven’t been purchasing DVDs either though – just renting). I’ll probably test out the Kindle for iPhone application on a few titles that I’d otherwise buy new, such as new releases that I want to read right away, but continue using the library for the most part.
I’m starting out with the free sample of In Defense of Food which is a book I’ve been wanting to read and haven’t been able to get at the library yet.
