Let’s look back at June. This month I did go over budget but that’s because I spent 10.5% of my budget on blog expenses (the business services category on the following graph) without increasing the budget to account for blog income. At this point I’m aiming to run my blog as a non-profit and pour all income into improvements. In theory I could exclude blog income and expenses from my personal budget completely, but I’d rather have everything reflected in one place. I manually maintain an income/expense sheet for the blog and it’s still in the black. So if we exclude blog expenses from my personal budget I came in 1.7% under budget for the month (and keep in mind that my budget is set to have me spending 75% of my take home pay).
June Budget
July is the first month I’m eligible for my company’s 401k so I’m working on getting enrolled in that right now. That’ll reduce my take home pay by about $100 per month but boost my savings overall. I haven’t decided what if any changes I’ll make to the budget because of that yet.
I don’t usually share specific numbers when it comes to money, but I’m excited right now because my cash balance has recently passed a major milestone. Mint.com only includes checking and savings accounts in this section, I do have a CD and some cash in my brokerage accounts (mainly Roth IRA) that it doesn’t include here. Most of this is my emergency fund savings which I’ve been slowly and steadily building for almost 2 years now, I keep it in a high interest savings account at ING. Check it out:

Hello! Great work on the budget. I have mine on a spreadsheet and am working on paying our credit card debts down. It is hard because every time I do, one of our kids (19 & 22) blow up an engine, wreck their car, or need tires, etc. Since they are both in college we pick up these expenses. One of the kids lives with us, so our groceries and utilities have gone way up. Thank God we can travel to get away.
Stopping by for Click & Comment Monday. Have a great week.
