This week I picked up 4 12 packs of Diet Coke (one caffeine free) at Walgreens taking advantage of their 3/$12 sale plus the free Caffeine Free Diet Coke 12 pack with the purchase of 3 other 12 packs. That brings them to $3 each which isn’t the best price I’ve ever gotten them but is pretty good and I was completely out.
I did the rest of my shopping at PW Market this week which I’m pretty sure has vastly better quality and better meat and produce prices than Safeway. They also had a great deal on toilet paper, Angel Soft was $2.49 for a 12 pack after $0.50/1 mq. I spent $45.10 total. Saved $11.89 with their sale prices (no club card or anything needed) and another $1.50 with coupons.
My total at PW Market this week was comparable to a typical week at Safeway (but hopefully I’m getting better quality food for a similar price). I’m also going to try out Trader Joe’s in future weeks and see how it compares.

Stumbled upon your site through VGNO. I’m always amazed at how some people can save so much money grocery shopping. I always use coupons but I’m still in the learning stages.
Hope you have a great holiday weekend.

Hello! I found your site a few weeks back and have been thrilled with your tips. Just wanted to chime in about Trader Joe’s:
I made my first trip there almost two weeks ago, and was super-impressed with much of what they had to offer — particularly their meat and cheese selections and many of their grocery items (olive oil, sweetening syrup, tortilla chips, and fresh-chopped salsa are all of fantastic quality and MUCH cheaper than I’ve purchased anywhere else).
Their produce leaves much to be desired, though. I admit that I’m spoiled — I have grown my own veggies in a backyard garden and otherwise shopped at Farmer’s Markets where I bring the produce home within 24 hours of it’s having been picked — but while their fruits and veggies looked beautiful in the store, they weren’t particularly flavorful, nor were they as fresh or hardy as what I would expect from a supermarket. So, if you have a good source of produce I would stick with it, or test Trader Joe’s in small quantities rather than the week’s worth of salad greens, root veggies, snacking fruits, and crudites I came home with — I ended up discarding nearly half of what I bought.

I’ve been to Trader Joe’s for random items in the past but never for regular shopping trips. I know some stuff is really cheap there (like a huge jar of minced garlic for $1), but one thing I’m concerned about there is that a lot of their produce you have to buy already packaged, you can’t just get one of some things. I’ll give it a try though and see how it goes.
