| I’m a huge proponent of conservation, environmentalism, ecofriendliness and all the rest of that stuff, but is all of this in the interest of the Earth or in the interest of life as we know it?
On my trip last week, I listened to an audiobook of Tyrannosaur Canyon by Douglas Preston. It was a mystery about dinosaurs and their mass extinction. It got me thinking that despite the horrendous environmental conditions the Earth experienced and the mass extinction of most life forms, 65 million years later the Earth itself is doing just fine.
Earth Day is about saving the Earth as we know it, so that it can support human life and we can live comfortably. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that at all but I think it’s an important concept that more people need to realize. Being green is in our own best interest.
In addition to conserving our environment for our own comfort, I think it’s important to be green because being green is being frugal with our natural resources. It may be a bit more expensive to be green now but sooner rather than later being green will be to most economically sensible thing to do. Featured in the All Things Eco Blog Carnival Volume 48. |

In the long run, we (or our children) will be paying dearly for past mistakes. It’s much cheaper to fork over the extra couple of bucks now for “greener” supplies than to pay later. I agree.
Excellent, excellent point!
I think one thing people don’t realize too is that as the demand for products made from recycled goods rises, the prices will come down. And regardless of how much we recycle now, if we don’t complete the cycle by also buying the products made as a result, we’re only doing half the job.
I like your blog, I’ll be back.
Thanks for linking! Good post!
