Consuming Less: Bottled Water

by Carrie on October 15, 2007

The best way to conserve is to not consume in the first place. An excellent example is bottled water. Think of all the energy that goes into producing it:

  • power for the filling factory
  • power for the factory that makes the bottles
  • raw materials to make the bottles
  • fuel to transport the bottles of water (and they are heavy) to a store
  • your fuel to transport it home
  • power to process the bottles being recycled (if you even bother to recycle them and don’t toss them in the trash)

Everyone gets tap water at their house anyway so let’s just use it instead. If you think that water isn’t good enough for drinking get a Brita pitcher or add some lemon. Get a reusable water bottle and fill it yourself.
