Low Key Grocery Shopping with Coupons

in couponing, going green, shopping

Just a few weeks ago I was lamenting my compulsive urges to buy ridiculous amounts of things like pasta at one time just because there was a good price, but now I’m glad I did it. With the cancer, I’m not planning to be in the mood to chase down deals for at least the next three months. I’ve got cupboards full of food to eat without having to do much grocery shopping.

The only thing I really needed today was milk so I picked up a gallon.

I also got some sweet potatoes which were $0.49/lb. My favorite sweet potato dish takes an onion so I got one of those too (onions and sweet potatoes are both on the clean 15 list so I went with non-organic to get a better price, I do have the clean 15 and the dirty dozen lists posted on my refrigerator for easy reference and I’m really making an effort to start following them on a regular basis.)

Safeway had a coupon for free breakfast sausages with a $20 purchase and even though I’d like all my meat to be organic, I just can’t resist free sausages.

To get the rest of the way to that $20 threshold, I picked up some Smooth Move tea (specifically recommended by my doctor to combat a certain uncomfortable chemo side effect), Fiber One yogurt and toaster pastries (had coupons for both and they’ll also help with that side effect), and a couple cans of tasty looking organic soups (I do love to make my own soups but just don’t have the energy or freezer space for that right now and need some quick, easy meals on hand).

Yeah, my fiance and I are trying to switch over to all-organic meat, and it can be painful. Love free meat though… our Whole Foods gave us a coupon for free bacon right after Thanksgiving and I think I skipped all the way home. ;P
