I'll never go back to commercial facial scrubs. None of them give me the great skin that salt does. I'm in my forties, so I needed something that would turn over my skin. The skin on my face looks a lot younger now and less blemishes.

I've tried sugars in scrubs and masks and they are wonderful for softening the skin. Milk is nice as well. Awesome post. :)

I love the baking soda +soap scrub for my face (usually I follow it with honey, separately) and it's also great for cleaning the sink or bathtub!

The salt/sugar scrub sounds like a great idea. Maybe that's the solution to my itchy toe calluses. I'll try it! Thanks!

We have been using baking soda as a facial scrub for a few months now and would never go back to a commercial scrub. Will have to try out your foot scrub.

Thanks! I have a book you might like, called "Homemade". I got it from Reader's Digest. It has recipes for "everything". Any product you might buy for your home, anything you can make....it's in there.

If you want one and can't find it, let me know and I'll locate it for you. I love mine. You just can't imagine what all is in there. It wasn't expensive either.

Happy VGNO

@ Abbie- If you add a little vitamin e oil that helps preserve it! I made a candy cane sugar scrub for Christmas, put a little vitamin e in it, and it was still good last week! (The recipe is on my blog if you're interested)

@ Carrie- I love using baking soda on my face! It feels wonderful. Glad to see I am not alone. A lot of people think I am a hippie :)

When i was in college i studied in Spain and my host mother would mix salt and olive oil and cover her whole body in it while she sat in the sauna at the local health club. Her skin was fantastic!! I think sitting in the dry heat let the olive oil absorb after she'd scrubbed her skin.

I'd never thought of sugar though. Thanks!

I just read another post that suggested using honey for your face as it has so many wonderful medicinal properties within itself. Apparently it's really good for your skin and even can help with wrinkles. I'm going to definitely try it.

These sound wonderful! I know that sugar and salt are preservatives, but I was wondering if either of these bath indulgences would "keep" well enough to make great holiday gifts. Yes, it is July, and I am thinking of December, but I like to plan ahead. I am a new reader, and a new subscriber...I can't remember how I happend to stumble here, but I really love what you have to offer...definitely my cup of tea. Thank you! Abbie
