Recycling paper just got a lot easier for me. I used to have to take it to the recycling center myself but starting mid-September my city is now collecting it curbside. We’re repurposing what once was just our newspaper recycling bins and we can now put all types of mixed paper in them. This is great for recycling packaging materials, magazines, junk mail, and envelopes – however, I don’t have a paper shredder at home so it’s not great for old bills and such.
Next weekend my city is having a paper shredding event when residents can take in anything they want shredded and it’ll be done for us, their paper shredder is heavy duty so I don’t have to worry about removing paper clips or anything – they’ll even shred whole spiral bound notebooks. So this week my task will be to go through my filing box and weed out all my old contracts, bills, etc (the box is getting full anyway and since I’m making an effort to go as paperless as possible I’m not interested in getting a whole filing cabinet).
If you don’t have a paper shredder at home and your city doesn’t offer a service like this you probably know someone who does have a shredder and will let you use theirs – it’s not something I would use at home often enough to need to run out and buy one.
